We would like to set you straight on many of the facts around weight loss surgery.

We would like to set you straight on many of the facts around weight loss surgery.

If you want to take a positive step towards reaching a major personal goal: losing weight and pursuing a healthier lifestyle, then come along and hear about the options available to you.

When considering weight loss surgery, many thoughts and questions may come to mind.

That's why we are holding a free information evening to help inform your decision. Our surgeons, David Schroeder and Rowan French will be on hand to provide some impartial advice and answer any questions you may have.

As part of the evening, David and Rowan will host an informal presentation on:
• Suitability for surgery
• The benefits and drawbacks of weight loss surgery
• The procedures we perform
• Success rates
• Support given and the process you will follow before and after surgery

We know that when we see patients one year out from their weight loss surgery, they generally have one regret.

That regret is that they did not have the surgery 5 years earlier.

So what held them back? Many thought that they were not big enough. They had gained the idea from TV shows that they needed to be over 200 kg to qualify. They were surprised when they found out that the BMI of 35 or more meant they were eligible to be considered. At this weight, there are already significant health risks.

The second common belief was that they should be able to lose the weight permanently on their own, if they just tried harder one more time. However, diets become less and less effective, and there is a wealth of scientific evidence that shows the diets very rarely work as a long-term solution, because of a number of physiological, social, medical and psychological factors.

Lastly, many felt it was selfish to spend family money to fix the problem that they felt was to their own making. Eventually they realised that when they were healthy and happy, they were in a much better position to participate with the family in a richer and more meaningful life.

We would like to set you straight on many of the facts around weight loss surgery. If you have ever thought about this as a solution, it is worth coming and hearing more about it, asking all the questions that are important to you, and making up your own mind about whether it is appropriate for you.

The information evening will provide an opportunity to have one-on-one discussions with both of the surgeons and members of the team.

Places are limited, so please call us on 07 859 0185 to reserve your place or register here: http://www.weightlosssurgery.nz/info-evening-registration.
