Sad world with burglaries rife

"I am so grateful my husband and I moved to a secure retirement village recently.

"Saturday's news (News, September 2) makes sad reading about the thefts that continue in our city.

"One has to wonder to what extent burglars are prowling our community looking for opportunity to commit crime. The story reported some skillful thefts. The first involved the removal of gas hot-water cylinders from outside homes.

"I went on to read of a gardener, after years of carefully nurturing his many Bonsai trees, found quite a few had been stolen. How could this occur? Had there been some opportunist on his property?

"Finally, a television station reported a theft of a number of beehives removed from a remote location. This thief could only have had some apiary experience to remove them.

"This is not the first time I have heard of such thefts of hives. Then there is the frequent theft of avocados from our local orchards. What a sorry world we live in."

Minority control

"I totally agree with Bryan Johnson's claim (Opinion, August 31) that New Zealand has become controlled politically, judicially, culturally, academically and educationally by an ethnic minority.

"I am so over the changing of the names of everything to Maori and having people tell me Maori is my heritage when it plainly isn't, just as it isn't for many of my friends who live here whether their backgrounds are Indian, Asian, Dutch, British or American.

"Unless one embraces everything Maori we are having the "R" word thrown at us. I was born here, as were my parents and those before them, but I don't identify myself in any way shape or form to be Maori, but have always been proud to call myself a New Zealander."

Culture wrecked

"I wish to red-flag people posing as urban liberals who pretend to be politicians. They wear nice clothes and fancy suits but want to destroy all we have earned. They also want to give it all to the poor who do nothing but feed and breed.

"I wish to warn all your good readers to beware of these people pretending to be nice. They know how to spend but they don't know how to earn. They are destroying our fine culture one person at a time.

"They say they are democrats but are really socialists. May God help us."
