The next generation looks set to be full of cricket fans.
Groups of primary school students supported by Active Post hit the Bay Oval yesterday to be a part of the first international one-day match at the grounds.
Travelling from Te Ranga School near Te Puke were Conal Nikkelsen, 10,Emma Kendrick, 10, and Regan Cooper, 11.
The three proudly showed off their hats, shirts and posters which cricketers from the New Zealand and South African teams had signed.
Conal plays cricket for the Te Puke Cricket Club and said his favourite part of yesterday's match was watching the fast bowling and when the Black Caps hit sixes.
Emma did not play cricket for a team but enjoyed playing with her family and at school.
