The Tauranga Yoga Centre has thrown its weight behind the Bay of Plenty Times Christmas Appeal.
Operations manager Sue Furey said giving back to the community had always been part of the centre's policy.
"At its essence yoga is about unity. Yoga means to yolk. It's a little way ofputting yoga into the community."
The committee decided to donate to a few local charities and the Tauranga Community Foodbank was one of the first suggested. The group agreed to donate $750.
"It was just chosen in acknowledgment that some people have a whole lot less," she said. "We acknowledge that a lot of people struggle to put food on the table each week."
It was especially important to give the charity a helping hand coming up to the festive season, she said.
"Coming up to Christmas there's always that acknowledgement of people thinking about Christmas and Christmas dinners. "
More than 6600 items of food have been donated to the appeal, with each item valued at $2. Cash donations of $17,678.95 have been dropped off to the foodbank and transferred into the appeal bank account.
