Wotton family house under hammer first in reality show

D-Day is looming for the Wotton family who have "million-dollar hopes" for the home they bought and renovated when it goes under the hammer live on television this Sunday.

Our First Home contestants Theresa Tingey from Tauranga, her 26-year-old surveyor son Josh, his primary school teacher girlfriend Bex, 26, and Bex's father Henry Wotton, collectively known as the Wotton family, will see their West Auckland property auctioned live on TV One this Sunday, the first of the show's three homes to be sold.

The Wottons, along with the other families on the show, had to find and buy the home themselves and had eight weeks to renovate and rebuild.

Mrs Tingey was not sure whether being first off the block was a blessing or a curse.

"I've got million-dollar hopes but in reality, I'm quite scared about it all really.

"Being the first auction could be a good thing - or it might not be."

Mrs Tingey said the whole show had been fantastic and she was sad it was coming to an end. She could not say what her favourite part of the renovation had been - working on one room at a time meant each week was different.

"I really liked our master bedroom's secret garden area, I thought that was pretty cool. But every area was exciting and new."

Mrs Tingey said Josh and Bex were looking for another house to renovate when the show finished.

Doing all the renovation work had given Mrs Tingey the urge to start on her own home, which she said now looked "shabby" in comparison.

On Tuesday, Papamoa family Janette Hamilton-Pearce, Grant Pearce and their daughter Atareta Wirihana and her partner Tawera Sydney, will see their home go to auction.

Ms Wirihana said she was excited about the auction.

Her favourite part of being on the show so far was taking part with her mother, father and partner.

"That was eight weeks of being with each other, working with each other and learning about each other.

"We were already close before the show and we've become stronger."

She loved the motu chair she and her family made out of acrylic during one of the challenges.

"That was a highlight."

After the auctions, the family would be moving on in different directions.

Ms Wirihana said Mr Sydney was looking at moving into landscaping, she and her mother had started an online marketing business and her dad would be going back to being a builder in Tauranga.

She and Mr Sydney would be looking for a house to renovate in Papamoa.
