Worst of the weather yet to come

If you thought there was plenty of rain that fell on Tauranga overnight, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Metservice has forecast a total rainfall of 21.4mm to fall today until about 6pm, with much of that rain falling between 2pm and 4pm.

The rain is expected to ease later in the evening.

Overnight, 1.3mm of rain fell between 12am and 2pm.

Metservice issued a severe weather watch for the Bay of Plenty, warning of heavy rain and strong winds.
