WorkSafe New Zealand is investigating how a worker was injured in a three-metre fall at NZ Car Parts in Mount Maunganui on Monday.

Hato Hone St John said it was called to Tyne St at 8.17am on September 8 and took a person in critical condition to Tauranga Hospital.

Police were also called after reports of a person being injured in a fall.

NZ Cart Parts Tauranga Limited owner Terry Lines told SunLive that a “highly valued employee … was injured in a workplace accident on Monday”.

He said the company’s thoughts were with the employee and his family.

NZ Cart Parts Tauranga Limited was “cooperating fully” with WorkSafe’s investigation, and he could not comment further while this was ongoing.

A WorkSafe spokesperson said investigators have been gathering evidence to determine whether there had been any breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

“Preventing falls should be actively managed so that people working at height are kept safe.”
