The Katikati Work and Income office has been closed to allow an ''urgent review'' of security in the wake of the Ashburton tragedy.
The Ministry of Social Development closed the office this week as one of several satellite sites around New Zealand. The ministry has also suspended most home visitsuntil further notice.
Acting national commissioner Penny Rounthwaite said in a statement the measures were put in place ''until we're sure of the safest way to offer our services''.
''These measures will be in place until we're sure of the safest way to offer our services.
''Since the incident in Ashburton, there have been a number of threats made against MSD staff. We take these very seriously.
''While some of these may be idle threats, police are taking action on each threat. We regret any inconvenience this may cause our clients, but security must take priority for our staff and our clients at this time.''
Earlier this month, Ashburton Winz workers Peggy Noble and Leigh Cleveland were killed after a gunman entered the office and opened fire.
The tragedy sparked an increase in threats made to Winz and Government departments including one which prompted the emergency closure of the Tauranga Winz and IRD offices last week.
