The man found dead in a Whangamata home on Tuesday has been identified as 76-year-old Ivan Peter Kapluggin.
Police said Mr Kapluggin was a UK passport holder with a New Zealand residence visa, who resided in Thailand.

Eastern Waikato AreaInvestigations Manager, Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Pitkethley, said police extended their sympathies to the family of Mr Kapluggin.
"The post-mortem examination completed in Auckland yesterday confirmed Mr Kapluggin died as a result of wounds, we will need to wait until the completion of the on-going scene examination before we can identify what or if any weapons were used in relation to Mr Kapluggin's death," he said.
"As this examination continues an occupant from the address is continuing to assist our team with our inquiries."
Mr Pitkethley said police were still appealing for anyone who had recent contact with the victim or in the vicinity of the property early Tuesday morning or, who hasn't already spoken to detectives to contact the enquiry team at the Whangamata Police Station on 07 865 0300.
