Parts of the Western Bay of Plenty are tinder dry but fire bosses are yet to enforce a total fire ban, for now.

Western Bay Moana Rural Fire Authority principal rural fire officer Alan Pearce said there had been no serious breaches of the extreme fire season in the region so far.

"Breaches are minor and being dealt with by the authority as they arise."

Mr Pearce said people had mostly been good to deal with following the extreme fire risk and restricted fire rules.

"The authority would look like to thank the public in general for their forbearance at the moment. We will not be re-issuing permits until the weather improves," he said.

"We are quite happy to offer advice to anyone needing it. They can call 07 5718008 and ask for rural fire."

Mr Pearce said he would prefer people to ring and ask for help rather than lighting up if unsure.

Mr Pearce said they were assessing the region's dry conditions on a daily basis and if the area did not receive rain soon, it was likely a complete ban would be imposed.
