Weapon attack near community gardens

Police are looking for a man who threatened seven people with a weapon in Otumoetai.

At 8.50pm last night police responded to reports of a robbery at the Otumoetai Community Gardens near the intersection of Ngatai and Otumoetai Roads, Tauranga.

A group of people were approached by a man carrying a weapon who demanded they hand over any money or valuables, a Police Communications spokesperson said.

The attacker fled the scene by the time police arrived.

A dog unit searched for the offender but did not find him, she said.

The man was described as being 6ft tall, of medium to big build with very short hair.

He was wearing a grey hoodie with a black tracksuit-style jacket with red lines down the seams, over the top and baggy blue jeans.

Police and Victim Support were working with the seven people who were attacked.

Police were continuing to try to locate the offender.
