Traffic delays expected as Tauranga police operation runs near Otūmoetai

A police operation in the Otūmoetai area may cause traffic delays, parents picking up children from schools are being warned.

Letters sent to parents from Otūmoetai Intermediate and Otūmoetai College say police are conducting an operation in the area this afternoon that “may cause traffic delays for parents collecting children from school”.

Schools have advised that increased congestion is possible, particularly around the Cambridge Rd/Waihī Rd/Otūmoetai Rd roundabout.

A woman in the area, who did not want to be named, said: “police were gearing up on Cambridge Rd with balaclavas and helmets”.

She said there were four police cars at the scene.

A police spokesperson said the operation “appears to be a pre-planned search warrant”.
