More Bay of Plenty residents have been instructed to boil all drinking water while others have been warned to start conserving theirs.

Another boil notice has been issued for parts of the eastern Bay of Plenty following Edgecumbe's flood.

Toi Te Ora Public Health Service has tonight issued the warning for people in the Te Mahoe, Tāneatua, Rūātoki and Rangitaiki Plains to boil all water before drinking.

The Rangitaiki Plains includes Te Teko/Mapou, Edgecumbe, Awakeri, Braemar, Onepu, Otakiri and Thornton.

Toi Te Ora recommended bringing water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute to make it safe for drinking.

Residents on the Plains Water Scheme and in Whakatāne and Ōhope are asked to immediately begin conserving water.
