Waihi cyclist hit by car dies

A 77 year-old Waihi man has died after being struck by a car while cycling.

The man died last night while in Waikato Hospital after suffering serious injuries in the crash on September 6.

The crash happened at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Johnson Road in Waihi just before noon.

The man was airlifted to Waikato Hospital but his condition continued to deteriorate.

The Waikato Serious Crash Unit are investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash.
