A children's book about a little fairy trying to change the planet will be flying into book stores later this year.

Environmentally conscious Alison Collings from Waihi has been tinkering with the concept of The Adventures of Little Bang Fairy for two years and the magical tale is finally becoming a story book.

The Adventures of Little Bang Fairy is a rhyming fable about a blue fairy who lives in space who realises she can no longer see the earth due to pollution.

The fairy discovers a number of issues contributing to the world's environment problems and meets some outrageous characters — such as Nana Banana and Agent Orange the evil pirate — along the way.

''The book also deals with issues such as greed, self obsession and laziness which impact the planet. With greed, you strip the earth of resources and self obsession — people are wrapped up in their own lives they can't be bothered or it's someone else's problem.''

Alison, whose nom de plume is Mairi MacLeod, says the book will also appeal to grown-ups.

''There's with some gentle satire in there.''

Alison was working as a zero waste educator but left her job during lockdown. She took the time to finish writing and creating vivid storyboards for photographing. The Adventures of Little Bang Fairy started as a puppet show she used to entertain children with at schools. She's also written a children's educational book about air quality called Wow Town.

Alison is now focusing on full time book writing, illustrating and songwriting for children.

Alison is also one part of band Quarter Acre with partner Michael Thornton. The two play regularly in and around Waihi.

There will be a The Adventures of Little Bang Fairy book launching at Paper Plus Waihi once it is published. The book is with the publishers and is expected to be out by November. Contact Alison via 4acremusic@gmail.com if you would like to pre-order a book.
