Counties Manukau police have charged a 37-year-old man with kidnapping as part of the investigation into the murder of Lance John Murphy.
The 56-year-old was last seen on November 21 after he walked out of a Warkworth petrol station, got into his red Madza and drove off.
The 37-year-old man,who was arrested by armed police following the execution of a search warrant in Waihi today, is due to appear in Manukau District Court tomorrow morning.
A Counties Manukau police spokesperson said police could not rule out the possibility of further charges being laid against the arrested man.
Police would like to thank members of the public who provided vital information which led to this arrest, the spokesperson said.
