Hundreds of Rena volunteers who are Vodafone customers have been rewarded for their efforts with credit.
Vodafone external communication manager Michelle Baguley confirmed the company had given several thousand dollars worth of credit to the people who volunteered to clean up Western Bay of Plenty beaches.
"We have credited about 300 people and all of those 300 received between $30 and $100 each based on the amount of hours they put in," she said. "We also provided the volunteers with 1000 sun hats. It was actually hot then, rather than now."
The Bay of Plenty Times was made aware of the credit by a volunteer, who was surprised to receive it.
Ms Baguley said the credit was "something that we really wanted to do to help". She said she was not able to give a definite figure the the amount of credit given away, other than it cost "several thousands of dollars".
