A woman who suffered a serious head injury and concussion yesterday was flown to Tauranga Hospital by the rescue helicopter.

The Tauranga based Trustpower TECT Rescue helicopter was dispatched to the back of TePuke area at 3pm where the 32-year-old female was involved in what is thought to be a horse related incident.

There were no eye witness's to the incident and the patient was stabilised at the scene by St John paramedics before being flown to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

At 6pm, the helicopter was tasked to Omaio, up the East Cape, where a 74-year-old male suffered a very serious medical event that needed immediate hospital care.

The New Zealand fire service secured a landing area on the side of the road. St John paramedics stabilised the man before being flown to Tauranga Hospital.
