A light truck truck flipped on its side on a busy Western Bay road after it was involved in a collision with a car just south of Katikati yesterday afternoon.

The accident happened about 2pm on State Highway 2 near Hot Springs Rd.

Three occupants of the truck were travelling south towards Tauranga and the car was coming out of a commercial premises.

No one was injured.

The truck's driver, who did not want to be named, said if it were not for their seatbelts the outcome "could have been worse".

"When we knew the truck wasn't going to roll again I just unclipped the belt and pretty much just stood up and had to open the door and we all just checked on each other to see if we were all right." Senior Sergeant Ian Campion, head of road policing for the Western Bay of Plenty, said "intersection crashes, crossing the centre and run off the road are the three biggest issues along State Highway 2 north".
