Top girl Sophie to Lincoln

When presenting a Rotary Certificate of Achievement to Sophia Hunt recently, Kihikihi Rotary Club president Peter Robertson said she had achieved so much, it was difficult to list them.

Mr Robertson invited Sophia to speak and she outlined her final year at St Cuthbert's College, Auckland, where she was Head Boarder in 2012.

The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award was a highlight she achieved early in the year, meeting all the requirements of the award to wear alongside her Bronze and Silver Awards.

Passing Gold Star ballroom dancing with honours was also the culmination of a lot of work and effort.

Sophia also gained Trinity Guildhall Speech and Drama Grade 8, and on Christmas Eve she was notified that she passed Trinity Guildhall Certificate in Speech Communication with merit.

Another passion is skiing, be it water or snow.

Sophia was in the winning all girls' snow skiing team for St Cuthbert's and has also passed both Level 1 and Level 2 Ski Instructors Course, enabling her to be an international ski instructor.

She concluded her address by talking of her love of sailing. She said she had participated in 60 and 90 nautical mile races.

Being Head Boarder meant that Sophia was on the Student Council committee, the student voice for St Cuthbert's, as well as communicator between students and boarding staff.

Sophia finished by thanking Kihikihi Rotary Club very much for the honour and saying she firmly believes in taking advantage of all positive opportunities that are made available to her.

This year Sophia will attend Lincoln University.
