CRASH: Three Bay residents hospitalised after head-on collision on State Highway 2 last night. File/Photo.
Three Western Bay locals are in Tauranga Hospital, including two in intensive care, after a head-on collision between two vehicles on State Highway 2.
A police spokesperson said the crash happened just before 6pm last night on the stretch of highway between Aongatete Rd and Morton Rd about 10 kmssouth of Katikati.
One patient was trapped inside her van for a short time, the spokesperson said.
A Tauranga woman being treated in a hospital ward was in moderate condition.
The other two patients, a Tauranga man and a Katikati woman, were both in a serious condition in the intensive care unit, a hospital spokesperson said.
