Teen arsonist Zachary Lance Fitzpatrick, 17, who set fire to a Life Education Trust mobile classroom in June, has been jailed for one year and eight months.

In Tauranga District Court today Judge Christopher Harding granted Fitzpatrick, who lives in Aoengatete, leave to apply to substitute the prison sentence for home detention, if a suitable address became available.

Judge Harding said Fitzpatrick's age and very unfortunate background were taken into consideration.
