An old fashioned scoreline of 5-3 was good enough for Te Puna to knock over defending champions Tauranga Sports at Tauranga Domain on Saturday.

The win moves Te Puna into outright fifth place on the Premier 1 table on 14 points, just two behind Tauranga Sports, Te Puke Sports and Rotoiti all on 16.

Rangataua Sports are clear second on 23 points behind Mount Maunganui Sports who lead supreme on 28 but were pushed hard all the way at Blake Park by Greerton Marist before winning 34-32.

Te Puke won a key clash with Rotoiti 33-20 on the back of a masterful defensive effort.
