Harbourside Waterfront Dining restaurant has come out trumps in a hospitality survey seeking out the region's best.

The Tauranga restaurant was awarded a gold placing in this year's Entertainment Book Gold Awards for the Waikato and Bay of Plenty area.

Harbourside was the only local restaurant to place, compared to six Waikato restaurants - including KFC in Ulster St.

Brian McGinn from Entertainment Publications said winners of the awards came down to who the customers voted for and "whether it's a fabulous a la carte dining experience, a local cafe that do 'the best' eggs benny, or a theme part that the kids love".

"The Gold Awards provide the opportunity for our customers to say 'thank you' and 'well done' to the great businesses in their local community," Mr McGinn said.

The Entertainment Book launched five years ago and has also helped raise millions of dollars for local communities, causes and charities.
