Tauranga flights cancelled due to thick fog

At least two Tauranga flights have been cancelled and another delayed due to thick fog blanketing Auckland.

Air New Zealand reports two morning flights from Auckland, 8.55am, and Wellington, 10.55am, have been cancelled while the 6.50am arrival flight from Auckland has been delayed to 8.40am.

Tauranga Airport manager Ray Dumble could not be reached this morning but Tauranga is not the only regional airport to be affected.

About 14 domestic flights have been cancelled and 15 domestic flights delayed due to the fog so far. However, domestic flights from Auckland to Wellington, Christchurch Dunedin and Queenstown are not affected by the fog.

Domestic departures and arrivals Air New Zealand and Virgin flights (operated by Air NZ) early this morning to and from Whangarei, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Napier, Blenheim and Nelson have been affected.

Air New Zealand flight NZ246 from Bali has diverted to Melbourne Airport.

Passengers are advised to check in with their airlines about delays and cancellations.
