Two convincing victories and three split decision losses were the record of six Tauranga Boxing Club members at the club's first tournament of the year on Saturday evening.

The fight night at TGA Health & Fitness Centre was the local boxing gym's first amateur tournament in five years and featured boxers from throughout the North Island. There was a good-sized crowd to cheer on the local favourites, with 12 contests and an exhibition bout.

Michael Crosa, 17, making his ring debut put on a great display of pressure and precision punching to stop game opponent Joseph Puli from the Hastings Giants Gym in Hawke's Bay.

Hannah Walker, who was having her fifth fight in the ring on Saturday night, put on a great exhibition with crisp punching and technical ability to get a hard-earned win against Te Mana Shelford from Hamilton.

Reweti Davis, Linda Thompson and Nathaniel Crawford also represented the Tauranga Boxing Gym with plenty of pride and passion but were all on the wrong end of split decisions.
