Firefighters from Greerton, Tauranga, and Mount Maunganui contained a fire at 27 Oxford St, Parkvale after a callout at 9.34pm on Friday.

The fire was in an unattached garage that was not part of the main residence, a Fire and Emergency NZ (Fenz) spokesperson said.

“The fire is being treated as suspicious,” the spokesperson said.

“A fire investigator is due to attend the address.”

Fire crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading further.

“Four fire trucks were involved, and it had spread to the neighbouring property,” the spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson, all occupants were safely evacuated on to the street as Fenz crews arrived on the scene.
