Emergency services were called to a car fire in Mount Maunganui overnight.
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said firefighters were called to the suspicious fire on May St about 2.18am.
A police media spokeswoman said police were speaking with the owner of the vehicle.
No arrests have been made
and inquiries are ongoing.
