State Highway 36 near Rotorua has reopened after two people were injured in a two-truck crash this morning.

Both were taken to Rotorua Hospital, one in critical condition and one minor, a Hato Hone St John spokesman said.

A police spokeswoman said police were called to a crash involving two lightweight trucks at the intersection of Jackson Rd and SH36 at Hamurana about 9.30am.

The road was closed between Jackson Rd and Hamurana Rd but has since reopened.

“The area is also being impacted by heavy fog and motorists are urged to drive with caution and adjust their speed to the conditions,” police said in a statement.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said two trucks from Rotorua were sent to the scene.
