Firefighters have been kept busy with a number of vegetation fires in the Bay of Plenty.

A fire communications spokesman said firefighters were called to a vegetation fire in Tawera, Whakatāne, about 3.30pm on Sunday.

Fire brigades from Taneatua and Whakatāne responded to the 30m by 20m fire.

Three fire brigades were called to a shelter belt fire in Paengaroa at 3.46pm.

The fire was about 50m in length, the spokesman said.
