Argentina professional boxer Tomas "La Cobra" Reynoso made a successful New Zealand debut at the Clash of the Corporates 6 at the Memorial Hall in Tauranga on Saturday when he defeated Kiwi journeyman Daniel Maxwell.

The main event in front of a nearly sold-out house was a fitting finale to 12 Corporate fights. Reynoso entered the ring at a very trim 74.0 kilos, conceding 1.4 kilos to his opponent.

The six-round middleweight contest saw both fighters feeling each other out in the opening round, with Maxwell tying Reynoso up on a couple of occasions. Tauranga Boxing Club's new recruit started to unleash his combinations in round two.

Maxwell was forced to cover up for much of round three, as Reynoso started to unload his right hand. The fight became one-way traffic from the halfway stage, with Maxwell spending much of his time defending with little attacking action.

Reynoso was clinical in throwing his punches in the last two rounds. However, Maxwell was game in defeat and took plenty of power punches without going to the deck.

The judge's decision was a formality, with two judges giving a shutout 60-54 to Reynoso, with the third ringside official posting a 59-52 points victory.

The Argentinean will have little time to relish his ninth professional success as he meets Ricky Murphy on Thursday night at Shane Cameron's Sky Television card in Auckland.

Two heavyweights had their supporters on their feet in the lead-up to the main event.
Vaughn "The Matamata Thunder" and Tomasi "The Tank Engine" Te Wheoro went to war, throwing an avalanche of big shots from the opening bell. Late in round two, Te Whero landed some big blows with the referee calling a halt with one second remaining in the round.

Kim Thompson defeated "Mad" Meg Saunders in an all-action welterweight women's bout. Both contestants scored plenty of points throughout the fight, with attack seesawing between the two boxers throughout the three rounds. The announcer described the fight as an epic battle before awarding Kim Thompson a unanimous points victory.

Two of the big boys went to battle in the fight between Levi "Lights Out" Rahui and Joe "The German" Ormsby. Hectic power shots and swinging hooks had taken centre stage before Ormsby took out a unanimous decision.
