Event promoters are releasing 3000 more tickets to the sold out Bay Dreams concert in Mount Maunganui.

Tickets to the January 2 music festival sold out two months in advance and a waiting list was set up with more than 2500 names on it.

The extra tickets will go on sale on Thursday at 7pm at www.baydreams.co.nz.

In early December the Bay of Plenty Times reported there had been a mad scramble for tickets after 15,000 tickets were sold out.

Tickets for the festival sold for $155 through the event organisers but were going for between $250 and $400 on TradeMe.

At the time experts were looking at expanding the capacity of Baypark Stadium.

The concert featured headliners Shapeshifter, Peking Duk, Sticky Fingers and Yelawolf.

It would kick off with a warm-up party on January 1 with Kings, Example, The Upbeats feat. MC Tiki Taane and Earth Tiger.
