Te Puke's demolition of Whakarewarewa on their home patch in Rotorua is the final proof if any was needed of Western Bay's domination of Bay of Plenty club rugby.

Rotoiti are still contenders and Whakarewarewa will no doubt regroup, but the chances of two Western Bay sides playing in the final looks more certain with each round played.

Te Puke's 64-22 victory, following last week's resounding win by Tauranga Sports over Whakarewarewa, leaves little doubt as to who the favourites are to contest the Bayfair Baywide Premier title.

Tauranga Sports remain undefeated and untroubled this season after they spanked Waikite 85-10 in Rotorua on Saturday. Te Puke retain second spot after their nine-try victory over Whakarewarewa, while Mount Maunganui Sports burst back into form scoring six tries to defeat Te Puna 41-19 at Maramatanga Park.

Te Puke coach Craig Jeffries says his team was under pressure in the opening half before cutting loose to have a great day.

"[No 8] Eru Smith-Wano was again hugely influential. It was his home crowd as he is a Whaka boy from way back and he had a huge game. There is no one in the competition quite like him," Jeffries said.

"[Winger] Brynn Uriarau had 30 minutes back from injury and he will be hugely beneficial for the Bay. A number of the players stepped up and it was a pleasing result. They are definitely building and I like the idea of being on the backburner and keeping a low profile. The boys are a breeze to coach because they work so hard on their own games and as a group."

Mount Maunganui led 31-0 at the break and never looked like losing to a Te Puna side lacking any commitment on defence and struggling in the set pieces. For Te Puna, No8 Hamish Boyce made some telling breaks and Sri Lankan sevens international Imad Reyal will be sorely missed on his return home after his fine performance.

Recent arrival from Dunedin, Pera Gibbs, was the catalyst for many of the Mount's flowing attacks. His ability to take the ball through the defensive line makes him a welcome addition to the first-five ranks alongside Steamers Dan Hollinshead and Te Rangi Fraser.
