A 14-year-old girl escaped with minor injuries after being grabbed by a man and forced to the ground in Welcome Bay on
Friday.
Detective Sergeant Zane Smith said the girl was walking her dog along Waitoa Rd between 3.30pm and 4.15pm when the man grabbed her. She kicked the man, screamed
for help, and escaped.
"She has escaped with minor injuries but has been shaken by the incident," Mr Smith said.
The man's face was covered with a dark fabric, believed to have been tied at the back of his head. He was wearing a black beanie or cap with fine, vertical, light-coloured stripes, a dark-coloured top and dark tracksuit pants.
He had broad shoulders and was of athletic build.
Police wanted to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, especially two people riding motorbikes.
