Northern fire communications shift manager Scott Osmond said the crash on State Highway 36 involved one car.

Mr Osmond said the road was closed because the power lines were down.

He was unclear about the extent of any injuries at this stage.

A reporter said traffic was backed up to the cemetery.

More to come.
