Revamped mobile library revealed

Tauranga's mobile library unveiled its new livery today, the first paint job since the bus hit the road 16 years ago.

The design was a joint effort of Tauranga Libraries' promotions assistant Daniel Petersen and Marathon Visual Media.

"We are really pleased, it has exceeded our expectations," libraries customer services team leader Joanna Thomas said.

The new-look bus' first port of call was the Melrose Village in Waihi Rd, with children from an adjoining day care also clambering aboard to get their books.

Mr Petersen said that he and Joanna came up with the concept that showed off what people associated with the Bay of Plenty.

After discarding a lot of cliched logos for the mobile library, they decided to stick with the Tauranga Libraries brand of Te Ao Marama, the World of Life and Light.

He said the design would brighten a gloomy winter's day and remind people of what they liked about the Bay.

The main photo was taken in November just as pohutukawa were coming into bloom.

The library was involved in a fatal crash at Welcome Bay last year but repaired and back on the road in its old paintwork in December.
