On the menu Looking at this menu, we know we are going to have to come back. Not because it's unnecessarily oversized, but because we want to try everything. If you're like me, sharing is caring, so smaller plates are a winning ticket. Pig's ears, lamb ribs or haloumi friesare a good way to get stuck in and messy up your mitts. The further down you go, the bigger the plates and the options are just right, covering all bases from pizza lovers to the health conscious.
The buzz Many have tried yet none have conquered, but HIDE seems to have this venue nailed. For the first time, the outdoor area is in full bloom with tables and chairs framing the courtyard, the open fire a centrepiece and ultimate drawcard on wintry Sunday arvos. The deep navy hues and dots of greenery make for a pretty cool setting and on certain days, there'll be live sounds to keep you entertained.
To drink With MOA at the helm, there's a fantastic selection of craft beer on the menu and the cocktails sound phenomenal. However, we are here for a long overdue ladies' lunch, so before we can even think of food, we are guzzling our first glass of wine. It's refreshing to see more than one option of rosé.
We ate We opt for a few of the smaller plates, with the anticipation of ordering more, but we needn't get so ahead of ourselves. Popcorn prawns ($17), polenta crusted spuds with cheesy queso dip ($14), haloumi fries ($16) and the duck sausage ($16) are all moorish, comforting and will be difficult to forgo next time, though I'm keen to try the whole flounder or the Hide bowl with tofu or pork belly.
The staff The owners, Matt and Kimberly, know what they are doing and once again their formula has worked. The team is attentive and friendly, but not invasive, and for a new opening, it's impressive to see their knowledge of the menu is as it should be.
The verdict What can I say, next time, next time, next time. It's pretty clear we will be back and this looks to be a sweet spot all year round.
