A magnitude 6.3 earthquake was felt throughout the Bay of Plenty on Saturday evening.

The quake was located 195km north of Te Araroa at a depth of 294km. Tauranga and Rotorua people reported the earthquake as feeling weak or light, while people in Whakatane and Opotiki reported it as weak to moderate.



It was felt in many areas throughout the North and South Islands, with 1583 people submitting felt reports on www.geonet.org.nz.
