3.20pm: A major police call out to Pyes Pa this afternoon was the result of a group of young people with a toy gun.

Tauranga police Senior Sergeant Glenn Saunders said police were called to a residence in Cheyne Rd after reports of a young person with a gun.

It is understood the young person was part of a group which had a confrontation with a group of contractors in the area.

3.07pm: Police are speaking with people in a house on Cheyne Rd after a large police call out to Pyes Pa this afternoon, a reporter at the scene says.

A local workman told the reporter he saw a man running up and down the road in a crazed way in the last hour, wearing a bunny suit.

2.58pm: A reporter in Pyes Pa says there is a heavy police presence on Pyes Pa Rd near Cheyne Rd.

She reported seeing eight police and dog unit cars outside Havenbrook Way when she arrived.

Police are refusing to comment at this stage.

EARLIER: Police are responding to an incident in Pyes Pa this afternoon.

It is understood the incident involves a property in the area of Cheyne Rd.

A police northern communications shift commander said they had no comment at this stage.
