A man has appeared in Tauranga District Court in relation to the theft of several cars from petrol stations throughout the region.
Tauranga police Senior Sergeant Shannon Clifford said the man was arrested by police and appeared in court today on charges of shoplifting, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and breaching his warrant.
The 46-year-old man of no fixed abode appeared in the Tauranga District Court today charged with unlawful taking of four motor vehicles from Tauranga.
The charges relate to vehicles stolen last week whilst the owners were filling them with petrol at different Tauranga service stations.
The male was identified from CCTV footage from the service stations.
Police say they have recovered two of the stolen vehicles but still want help from members of the public to find the 2003 blue Holden Commodore VY, registration number BEM 464 and the 2011 white Ford Ranger, registered number GDR774.
Yesterday, police appealed for help to find the person responsible after one of the thefts involved a car being taken right under the nose of a woman in the process of filling up her car.
