Walking around her garden, it's difficult to believe Diana Durrant has been a bromeliad enthusiast for just four years - they're everywhere.
Bromeliads are in the ground, attached to driftwood, in containers and fixed to just about every available spot - even the frame of the garden swing. However, the large garden has plenty of other features and while the bromeliads have a big presence, they don't nominate.
Nevertheless, it's clear Diana is an enthusiast. She says most of the bromeliads in the garden have come from fellow members of the Bay of Plenty Bromeliad Club.
The club will this weekend hold its annual sale and display at Matua Hall.
There will be a range of plants on display and the club members will have their own plants available to members of the public at affordable prices.
They will answer questions about the best growing conditions and care requirements for their plants as well as offering a wide range of plants not available at local nurseries.
Some bromeliads have spectacular flowers and others have interesting foliage.
This is the ideal time of year to establish a tropical garden that gives colour and brilliant displays all year round. They thrive in the heat and humidity that troubles many traditional garden plants.
