This caused nerve damage in his right front leg which left him unable to use it.
He adjusted well to not having use of his leg so had an operation to remove his leg.
An owner came forward but decided he would be no good to train as a hunting dog with only three legs and so signed him over to the SPCA.
Tiger is coping well and doesn't seem to have slowed down.
He's calm, patient and always happy to see people.
He quickly became a favourite with staff and volunteers.
Tauranga SPCA operations manager Margaret Rawiri said: "Please come in and meet him and show him that loyalty and devotion is a two way street!"
