Emergency services were called to two separate crashes in Tauranga on Saturday night, including a two-vehicle collision in Mount Maunganui that left one car ablaze.

Police said staff were alerted to the crash on Tōtara St, between Puriri St and Matai St, about 10.45pm.

“After the occupants got out of the vehicles, one of them caught fire,” police said.

Lewis said Fire and Emergency received the call at 11.53pm and sent three fire trucks from the same stations.

“On arrival we confirmed it was a single car crash and there were no persons trapped. We assisted police and ambulance,” he said.
