A person was trapped in a car after it crashed on Whakamarama Rd near Tauranga at about 5.30pm today.

The Fire Service's Northern Communications Centre said the the occupant of the car was "lightly trapped".

Units from Tauranga and Whakamarama were despatched to the one-car crash accident scene.

A reporter at the scene firefighters had cut the roof off the car and lifted the person out and on to a stretcher.
