Police are looking for an elderly person who was reported driving on the wrong side of the TEL motorway this afternoon.

Bay of Plenty road policing sergeant Ian Campion said a report came in at 11.47am that a person was driving on the wrong side of the expressway.

Mr Campion said the driver entered the expressway from Domain Rd near Papamoa and was Tauranga bound.

Mr Campion was not sure how far the vehicle traveled on the wrong side of the road and police have been unable to locate the drive so far.

He asked anybody who may have spotted the vehicle's number plate to contact Tauranga police.
