Tauranga's two-day One Love festival has got even bigger with organisers announcing a sister event - Good Vibes Festival - will be held as a pre party offering three days of international and local roots, rock and reggae.
Pato Alvarez from Pato Entertainment said Good vibes was a new projectaimed at developing artists for future One Love events while also being able to offer festival-goers more through a warm-up party for the main event.
He expects between 4000-5000 people to attend the Good Vibes Festival, which will be held at Soper Reserve, Mount Maunganui on Friday, January 25, before One Love 2019 at Tauranga Domain over Auckland anniversary weekend on January 26 and 27.
The line-up includes festival favourites Kora and Sons of Zion.
Josh Wawa is an exciting addition. Wawa, who last week announced a 4-date New Zealand tour for August, is one of the most requested acts for One Love every year and is looking forward to returning in 2019 as he showcases new music as well as the favourites.
Also joining the line-up are American-based reggae artists Kiwini, Micah G, Jordan T and local reggae acts NRG Rising, and Lion Rezz – with more acts to be announced.
Alvarez said Good Vibes was about giving artists who were regular One Love performers a rest while also developing artists for future events while also giving customers what they want.
One Love Festival had grown so much and the demand to see these bands over the summer had prompted them to create Good Vibes to fit every act on the bill, as well as to develop new bands and up-and-coming artists who will one day hit the One Love stage, Alvarez said.
He was excited about giving up-and-coming artists the chance to be heard by wider audiences.
"There is some really good talent out there that hasn't been noticed yet by the majority of the people or haven't been given the opportunity to play on the main stage, so we are going to give it to them."
It was hoped Good Vibes would provide more chance for other acts to come to the Bay and perform, he said.
"There are some USA/Hawaii brothers who are getting big requests in New Zealand but the One Love line-up is pretty much full as the second line up is already contracted."
"One Love is growing so fast that eventually it might become a three day festival.
"The bands we are bringing are some of the most requested to perform at One Love and that's why we created this in first place."
Tickets cost between $49 for early bird sales and $120 for Vip.
