Old Tauranga police station knocked down

Demolition of the old Tauranga police station has begun. Work began this week to knock down the station, which police have occupied since 1965.

Police announced in August the station would be replaced with a more modern and user-friendly version, expected to be fully operational by mid-2013.

The project will cost $20,787,000 over the 20-year life of the building.
