When was the last time you took your pants off and went to the beach?

During winter I find the beach such a weird concept. Obviously it's cold, you're not in that happy summer mindset and the beach, partially naked, seems the last place you'd want to be. Yet every summer we're back there in our boardies and bikinis (Okay, some wear a little more ... some a little less). I can't wait for the beach this summer! I've just got the feeling in the last few weeks that this summer is going to be one of the best yet!

Come at me summer! It's this time of year I love in the Bay, people are actually actively looking for things to do that will get them closer to the sun.

Some of the keen are at the beach already. I saw a pic last week in the Bay of Plenty Times of two, clearly insane, people swimming at Mt Main Beach.

Don't get me wrong, I love summer as much as the next white/ginger man, but I'm not gonna be all silly about it and go swimming in October! I'll walk on the beach now, or go look at a whale ... but swimming? Hell no.

Markets: You can tell summer is coming purely by how often they happen and the amount of people who turn up to them. I love that we are a market kind of buying audience in the Bay. When people go to the markets here they actually buy stuff, rather than take their little dog, in their $1000 jeans and mortgage deposit value sunnies and "make an appearance" at the market... here's looking at you Auckland.

Cruise Ships: The season has started, go to Pilot Bay sometime before Christmas on a cruise ship night and you'll realise we live in the coolest city in the country.

Summer music: At least go to one music gig this summer, or all of them! So many are free, or cost next to nothing (compared to what you'd pay in other parts of the world). My pick would be McLaren Valley Music & Arts Festival. There will be some great music/interesting sights there for sure!
