A new squash and fitness centre in Tauranga will be named after world champion and local squash legend Dame Susan Devoy.
The Dame Susan Devoy Squash and Fitness Centre, currently under construction on the corner of Devonport and Thirteenth Ave, will bring over 10 years of planning and fundraising to fruition.
The
centre is due to open in July.
Dame Susan Devoy said she was "humbled" to have her name associated with the project and was excited about the new architecturally-designed building that would be an asset to the city.
Club president Gail Bingham said the club was proud to have Dame Susan's name over the door.
"Susan is a true champion and has supported our club over many years as we have worked to bring this wonderful community facility to the Tauranga region," she said.
An variation of squash - racketball - would also be launched at the new centre.
