It was the first pageant Jane Brock had entered, but it may not be her last.

The 21-year-old law student from Auckland took out the title of ZM's Miss Mount Maunganui 2014.

Miss Brock was on holiday with friends at Mount Maunganui and was encouraged to enter.

"I entered because I would never normally. It was pushing myself and stepping out of my comfort zone."

While it was the first pageant she had entered, she did not rule out entering again if it fitted in with her studies.

"It was very nerve wracking," she said. "I've never won anything before so it was pretty cool. I'm very happy, but pretty shocked."

Runner-up, Aucklander Brooke Naismith, 19, was also the 2014 Miss Bikini New Zealand. "I just did Miss Mount Maunganui for a bit of fun."

Third place went to Lacee Buzza, 19, from Gatton, Queensland. "I did it because Nana wanted me to. To keep Nana happy."

Mount Maunganui brothers Josh and Jason Curtis took first and third places respectively in Mr Mount Maunganui.

The pair were a late entry after coming in from surfing. "We were running past and these girls were like, 'you should do it'," Josh said.

"It was fun," Jason said.
